WRESTLING HANDBOOK

We as coaches of the Palmer wrestling team have developed these rules as the foundation for a successful team.  We need the cooperation of both you and your parents regarding the following rules of participation.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

General :

  1. We respect others and ourselves at all times.  This includes team members, parents, coaches, administrators, teachers, and referees
  2. We give 100% effort at all times
  3. We represent Palmer High School wrestling at all times.
  4. We are Honest, reliable, and responsible individuals.

Team Pride A team has the same image as a person. It may be cowardly, aggressive, whining, conceited, sporting, rowdy, or well-disciplined. We want to create a favorable image. We want to be thought of as aggressive, hard-nosed wrestlers, quick on our feet and ferocious on the mat. We want people to think of us as well-disciplined and willing to pay the enormous price demanded of victory.

Practice Regulations As a team, we rely on each and every individual; therefore, your attendance at all practices is mandatory.  Practice begins at 3:00 daily. Be on the mat ready to warm-up at that time. Tardiness becomes a habit, so does punctuality. Keep fingernails short. practice uniforms should be laundered at least every other day if not every day. When a coach is speaking, be quiet and pay close attention. Always shower after practice. Cooperate with the managers; they play a large part in making this a  smooth organization.

Care of Equipment, You are responsible for every piece of equipment issued to you. The athlete/parent will purchase all equipment that is not returned.

Letterman's Code:

·        10 Varsity wins not counting Forfeits

·        Qualify for State

Missing meeting or banquets: Any wrestler of the Palmer Wrestling Team missing a mandatory meeting or banquet without prier arrangements will be in jeopardy of losing their letter in wrestling.

Team Discipline: If you need to be disciplined during the season that is a sign, you are not doing your job. The ability to do what is asked of you is a sign of maturity. Success comes with maturity! Discipline includes making weight when needed. Failure to make weight will remove a man from his position until the next wrestle off's.

Challenge matches We will try whenever possible; to wrestle challenge matches a minimum of two days before a dual or tourney. The coach will make final decision on the line up for tournament and duals. Practice the night before competition is mandatory, but will be light workout. You must be within reasonable poundage of your weight before leaving (night before) practice. You must notify the coach of your weight before leaving practice the night before competition.

Managers as stated earlier are important to a smooth running organization, so respect their requests and decisions.  Any reported disrespect to a manager will be dealt with by the coaching staff immediately and can result in the wrestler not participating in that weeks event and if necessary, dismissal from the team.   All female wrestlers and managers will require a female chaperone for all away events that require us to stay the night. Managers will be responsible for cleaning mats before and after practice, recording stats, keeping time during practice, getting ice, sorting equipment, maintaining first aid kit.  The Managers are responsible for brining and returning the med kit to the school before each tournament or dual.

Wt reduction and control No one on the Palmer Wrestling Team will be asked to drastically reduce weight. The coaches feel this is detrimental to your health. the healthy way is to reduce your caloric intake but maintain nutritional balance in your diet.

Fundraising  All Palmer High School wrestlers are expected to participate equally in all fundraising functions.  Any athletes that choose not to participate in these activities will need to come up with their own funds for special trips and equipment.
